Venison Meat
Venison is a term typically used to describe the meat of any deer or antelope, whether native of the United States or not. Native species include whitetail deer as well as moose and elk. Non-native venison includes the red deer, the fallow deer, and the nilgai antelope. At Broken Arrow Ranch, when we call a product venison, it refers to the meat of the axis deer.
One reason this is important to know is that axis meat tastes different than elk or whitetail deer meat. By lumping all of these species into one name, venison, people shopping for exotic meat may be disappointed at the inconsistency in the taste of what they have purchased. At Broken Arrow Ranch, we understand that consistency in flavor is one of the most important considerations for our customers.
When you buy venison meat from us, you can be assured that your package will contain the meat of the free roaming axis deer. If you are interested in other types of meat, we have those available as well. We mark our antelope as antelope, although, technically, it can be considered venison as well.
